DREAMS IN ISLAM

When people sleep (and sleep is “Less death”), the soul is taken up, but not completely, hence in this way even if you are sleeping , you are some where alive as well. Allah says:

Dreams that work are part of the prophecy, according to what has been transmitted from the Prophet : “Real dreams are one of the forty sixth part of Prophecy. “(Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim)

Abu Qatada reported that the Messenger of Allah said: “Good dreams are from Allah and bad dreams are from Satan, so if any one of you dream some thing bad, then he should spit three times to the left, then the person never gets hurt. “(Sahih Muslim)

Abu Salama said he had frightening dreams. Abu Qatada quoted the Prophet said: “Good dreams are from Allah, so if anyone of you dream some thing which is positive and good then only the person should convey to others. However, if the person dreams about something frightening, then he should never convey to any one. The person should in fact spit three times to the left and look for refuge in Allah from the evil Satan. In this way he will get rid about the dream.”(Sahih Muslim)

Dreams, are divided into three categories: Rahmani (those that come from Allah), nafsâani (Psychological, those which are caused by subconscious) and szajtani (Those that come from Satan).

Each one of you who wants true dreams should strive to be truthful, eat only what is halal, obey the laws of Sharia, avoid all that which Allah forbade, and His Messenger, sleep in a state of total purity and in the direction qiblah, and remember Allah for ever

Dreams which have much greater significance usually appear just before dawn, because it is the time in which Allah descends, and the mercy and forgiveness are close. It is also the time in which the devils go silent. It is in contrast to the evening time when the darkness spreads after sunset, when the devils and evil spirits have much greater power. ” (Madaridż as-Salikin, Volume 1, p. 50-52)

Man should praise Allah for a good night’s sleep and should enjoy. It is a clear sign that Allah loves you and he wants you to refrain from the things which Allah does not like.
